Bread Making!

Dough you fancy making bread? Our basic white roll recipe is a great place to start!

Ingredients

  • 500g Strong flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • Yeast (either ~4g fresh or 7g dried)
  • ~300ml warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Mix the  200ml warm water and sugar and gently sprinkle the yeast on top before stirring. Leave for 10 minutes, watching for bubbles or froth forming on the top. You can skip this step if using instant yeast.
  2. Add the flour and salt and to a bowl.
  3. Form a well in the centre, and then add the olive oil, yeast mixture, and remaining water. Knead the mixture until the dough starts to come together.
  4. Tip the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead well for approximately 10 minutes.
  5. Once the dough is smooth place in a bowl and cover. Leave in either a warm place until doubled in size or in the fridge overnight.
  6. Gently knead the dough– this is called ‘knocking the air out of it’
  7. Shape the dough into whatever shape you like! Place these onto a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  8. Leave the shaped dough in a warm place to rise for an hour. While this rises preheat the oven to 220C/fan 200C/gas 7.
  9. Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown and the shapes sound hollow when tapped. Get an adult to help you as the oven is hot.
