Easter Egg Chocolate Bar Making

Mould and decorate your own Easter Egg Chocolate Bar this York Chocolate Festival with the team from York Cocoa Works.

Discover how to mould your own Easter Egg Chocolate Bar before decorating with a range of decorations to craft your very own Easter treat.

Participants will work with their own chocolate, mould and a range of sweets and decorations to craft their own 30g Easter Egg Chocolate Bar.

Chocolate Festival Taste Trail

A walking trail around the city of York and an opportunity to try samples from some of the best York’s food scene by visiting a range of deli’s, restaurants and suppliers.

Note: Wed 16th to Sat 19th sold out. Tickets still left for Sun 20th.

A self-guided walking trail around the city of York and an opportunity to try samples from some of the best of York’s food scene.

The trail features 10+ sample stops and you will receive a  map and guide of when each business is open and offering samples.

The samples provided on the taste trail vary widely depending on the participating businesses, but may include small bites of chocolate, cakes, confectionary, and drinks.

Overall, the Taste Trail is a fun and engaging way for visitors to sample a variety of local food and drink offerings and experience the unique flavours and culture of York.

Tickets are limited to 100 per day.
Either pre-book online or purchase your booklet at the information point (while stocks last)
Collection of the trail booklet is from the Information Point any day of the festival from 10am
(Sample availability is dependent on trail participants hours stated on trail booklet)

Family Easter Egg Hunt

16 - 20 Apr 2025 Various - Guide map pick up from Information Point, Parliament Street, next to Shambles Market entrance

The Egg hunt is a fun and interactive activity designed for families with children. A self-guided walking tour, answering clues along the way, and finishing with decorating your own Easter Egg Chocolate Bar with York Cocoa Works.

Participants receive a guide map (FREE for all) providing a unique and engaging way for families to explore the local food scene, while also having fun and learning new things along the way. Activities included at York Explore Library Gardens, Holy Trinity Church,

Purchased ticket holders end the hunt decorating an Easter Egg Chocolate Bar with York Cocoa Works.
Tickets can either be pre-booked online or purchase at the information point (while stocks last)

Collection of the guide map is from the Information Point any day of the festival from 10am, located next to the Shambles Market entrance, Parliament Street
Last entry for the Easter Egg decorating in the Activity Marquee will be 4pm (Please allow at least 45 minutes to come back to collect your Easter Egg Chocolate Bar once it has set).

Easter Egg & Spring Bunny Chocolate Bar Making Workshop

Visit York Cocoa Works to learn how to create your very own Chocolate Easter Bunny or Easter Egg.

You will learn how to work with tempered chocolate to decorate, mould and package up your own Chocolate Easter creation.

Once set, you will gift wrap your creation to be enjoyed at home.

During this workshop participants will create their own chocolate egg and decorate using sweets and chocolate to assemble and decorate their own 150g Easter Egg or Easter Bunny as they choose.

Budding chocolatiers are invited to join us at York Cocoa Works to make your own chocolate egg this Easter – will you be making your own easter egg treat or a unique gift for your loved one?

Available 16th and 19th – 9.30am to 12pm

 

During the workshop you will:

Learn how to make your own chocolate egg this Easter
Working with your preferred choice of chocolate to learn how to temper chocolate
Work with chocolate egg moulds and assemble your beautiful Easter Egg masterpiece.
Learn how to decorate your Easter Egg before packaging it up.
Make a number of mini eggs to fill your finished chocolate egg.
What do you take away with you?

Each participant will take home approximately 400g of your own chocolate eggs as well as the recipes and technical worksheets to be able to make your own and perfect your skills at home.

Chocolate Bar Making at York Cocoa Works

Design and create your very own chocolate bar in our hands on chocolate bar making workshop. Choose from a range of chocolates, flavourings, inclusions and decorations to make your chocolate bar just how you like it.

York is home to the world’s most famous chocolate bars and brands, and there is a lot of love here in the chocolate city for all things cocoa. Join us in our academy and learn how to create your very own chocolate bar. You will discover our cocoa origins, we will show you how to work with tempered chocolate, and you will experiment with different flavours to perfect your masterpiece! Once the bars have set, you will be able to enjoy your beautifully wrapped creations at home.

During this workshop you will:

Discover where cocoa comes from and its origins
Learn how we manufacture our chocolate here on site
Try a selection of our own chocolate
Then work with your chosen chocolate to mould and design a chocolate bar
Flavour & Decorate your chocolate bar
This workshop is £25.00 per participant making a 150g chocolate bar.

Children under 5 are welcome to assist full paying participants in the creation of a chocolate bar.

Explore the chocolate making process from cocoa bean to the chocolates we make here at York Cocoa Works, learning and tasting your way around the chocolate manufactory with our Tasting Journey.

During your time with us, one of our expert chocolate makers will share the secrets of our cocoa and how we transform it into chocolate. You will discover our origins and learn the rich history of chocolate making in York before taking a peek into our manufactory and watching our chocolate being made. This session concludes with a special tasting conducted by our cocoa connoisseur. You will sample the chocolate we make from cocoa beans all around the world, experiencing the different strengths and flavour notes in our range.

Following the journey, you are invited to join us in our Chocolate Cafe where you can use your ticket to enjoy further discounts across our whole product range.

Part of York’s chocolate heritage the former home of the Terry family.

Take time exploring the garden ‘rooms’ of the former home of the Terry family (think Chocolate Orange). Discover fragrant borders, wildlife areas, vegetable garden and the glasshouse. Soak up the sunshine on the terrace or on a garden bench enjoying the view with your takeaway refreshments.

The Terry factory clock tower can be seen from the paddock orchard overlooking the racecourse linking the chocolate heritage of York and the Terry family from their factory to their home.

Note: The house is also used as regional offices for the National Trust in Yorkshire.

Ashley McCarthy – Chocolate Sculpture

Ashley McCarthy, an experienced chocolatier and professionally trained chef, known for being on Channel 4’s Extreme Chocolate Makers, will be showcasing his chocolate sculpturing skills live during the festival.

Located in the large marquee between Halifax and Barclays, visit anytime during the festival to see the creation progress over the 5 days of the Festival.

As Ashley works and when he’s on a break you will be able to see a montage of last year’s creation on the video screen behind him.

Villains Pudding Rum Launch

Villains Rum of York, Little Stonegate 11:00 until 16:30

Villains Rum will be celebrating the York Chocolate Festival with the launch of their decadent new creation — Pudding Rum in a sumptuous Chocolate Orange flavour. To mark this delicious occasion, they are partnering with Monk Bar Chocolatiers on the Shambles to serve their latest rum as an exquisite takeaway drink in their iconic chocolate cups.

Throughout the festival, they’ll also be hosting Villains Tour and Tasting experiences. Participants can uncover the dark and captivating stories behind York’s most infamous villains, taste samples from the Famous Five selection, and even earn initiation into the exclusive York Villains Society — provided they’re villainous enough, of course!

Joseph Rowntree Centenary Easter Event 2025

Join the team at The Cocoa Works (HAXBY ROAD)  on Saturday 19th April for their Easter Event! You can get adventurous in the scavenger hunt, find treats at the Easter Market, get your face painted and enter the raffle. Everyone is welcome!

The Cocoa Works was built by Joseph Rowntree in the early 1890s, this was York’s famous ‘garden factory’, where open space and education facilities supported the wellbeing of factory workers and their families. The site is of historical significance to York, and this restoration brings life back to a building that for years was central to the economy of the city.
